[...] “The colourful tens of thousands carried placards saying ‘Politicians only talk, Leaders lead’, ‘There is No Planet B’ and ‘System Change not Climate Change’. At the end an indigenous leader from the Americas said — to roars of agreement — that the real solution is not the climate market; the real solution is simply to leave the coal and oil and gas in the ground, and not to try and make a quick fix with poisonous nuclear. Before, on the march, he and all the indigenous peoples had been singing ‘The Climate Market is a Big Lie’. The fear is that the politicians will negotiate a deal where the North just carries on with planet-wrecking business as usual, and pays some money to the politicians of the Global South in exchange for them saying they’ll protect their forests to keep absorbing some of the CO2 — meanwhile carbon levels will keep on rocketing, the arctic melting, forests burning and permafrost melt will increasingly release methane. The fear is that they’ll make it look like a great deal, but it could be just like the G8 meeting in Gleneagles in 2005 when Bob Geldorf and the Make Poverty History campaign got the Governments to promise they’d end poverty in Africa, and then things just got worse.” Read the full report here.
What are the possibilities of encouraging our Scottish government to start a self help build your own eco house program?

The shortage of local authority housing could possibly be met by those willing to build their own Earth ships, straw bale houes etc being given the land and resourses to build autogenous houses. Such a practice would help combat/control global warming while helping the poorer among us by irradicating fuel bills.

To date, this is merely an idea for possible developement.

We HAVE to start taking care of our children's inheritance: this beautiful planet or it will cease to be habitable. Also, the wherewithall to do so must not be left in teh hands of teh wealthy alone. How many poor can affford solar panels or windmills?

There are many more poor in this world than there are wealthy.

The Earthship, for example would double as a means of ridding ourselves of much of the waste from our, to date, disposable livestyles. Tyres, for example, bottles and cans would be reused as construction materials.

Would those greater minds than mine, please, give a wee bit of consideration as to the possibity of getting such a program instigated.

For those of us living outside of Edinburgh, outwith an area holding such an event and with dogs etc to be tended, a later march would have ensured a greater turn out. I would dearly have loved to take part but, as a non driver (which way I intend staying) with a disabilty and old beasties in my care, I could not possibly get through to Edinburgh for midday.

Weather would not have deterred me nor any of my friends, who would have happily joined in but for work from which they cannot be freed until, at least, midday.

A reasonably early (need to be dark though) evening march with torches would have been ideal for we in Fife.

Unfortunately, because my pc rebelled to striking point with need for it to be rebuilt, I didn't learn of this event until too late to request such a plan. However, maybe these points could be taken into consideration when the next event is organised.

With warm regards and a big thank you for doing your bit for us all.
